Spring is here and has brought with it a number of ideas for homeowners looking to introduce new trends and project ideas.
📷The introduction of spring can be as easy as changing a few colours within the home.
Mike Greeff, CEO of Greeff Christie’s International Real Estate, says homeowners should see the arrival of spring as an exciting time.
The latter, warmer parts of the year always sees more activity as buyers start to look towards the future, reflect on new beginnings and think seriously about buying a home. If you are a homeowner, looking to add value to your home, whether it be for the purpose of selling or simply for your personal satisfaction, then undertaking a few spring home projects could be perfect for you, says Greeff.
Greeff shares his tips:
1. Introduce plants to your space

With winter having lost most of the icy grip on the province, a great way to liven up your indoor space would be to introduce plants to your living areas. Plants create oxygen and remove carbon-dioxide, and are therefore the best natural air purification system for the home.
Apart from this, they also create a good aesthetic feel in the home by adding spots of colour as well as irregular shapes.
Look at plants like bamboo, palm and ficus to complement the décor you may already have.
2. Spruce up your garden and plant some fragrant herbs and plants
📷
Gardens are synonymous with spring and play an important role in ensuring the theme of spring is present throughout your home.
Plants such as parsley, coriander, mint, basil and lemongrass are fast growing as well as fragrant and grow just as well indoors as they do outdoors.
Ensure you do not mix your indoor and outdoor plants, also remember to keep to a proper watering and feeding schedule. In addition to having a fiesta of fragrances in your yard, these plants are even more appreciated in the kitchen.
3. Re-sand and varnish an older set of table and chairs for the perfect patio set
📷
Everyone enjoys afternoon drinks or a light lunch on their patio every now and then. This is especially true as the warmer afternoons and evenings approach.
Keeping true to DIY tradition, relook at an old outdoor dining set you may have kept in storage or alternatively, pick up a set from an antique store or yard sale and get to work.
Make use of easy-to-find items like sandpaper, a few jars of varnish and a neutral lacquer to give that old furniture a new lease on life. Add a few cushions and some outdoor furniture pieces to turn your patio from ordinary into something special in a flash.
4. Introduce new shades into the home’s colour palette

The introduction of spring can be as easy as changing a few colours within the home. Think pastels, trendy colours and also look at Pantone’s colour of the year. This may inspire you on how you can incorporate these colours into your home.
Depending on the layout and décor of your home, look at creating contrasts through feature walls in bold, bright colours.
Colours have a visual temperature associated with them. Try changing the ‘temperature’ of certain rooms to suit their purpose, or to change their feel in the warmer part of the year.
Finally
Spring is the season of renewal and rebirth. Why not give your home the brand new look and feel it deserves?
